Echo and one-way voice problem on the Cisco IP soft phones

I have to  use my VoIP soft phone when I travelling abroad (not in the US),  I can call the home office extensions with no problem, except that the receiver of the call gets a very bad echo on their own voice.  This has happened 100% of the time, and was also present when I called 3rd party phones.
Another issue with this soft phone on my laptop:
When I try to call a remote phone at my home office in the US, the receiver cannot hear my voice.  I can hear them, but they cannot hear me.
Please help.
