The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

watchguard, firewall, Edge 20

I am configuring the Firebox Edge and have turned on PPTP service. I have configured my XP workstation to connect to the firewall using PPTP. I connect, authorization occurs, and the connection gets established. My XP machine now has a PPP adaptor configured and it is showing me the IP assigned to me by the firewall (from the pool)

However, I cannot ping between my external machine and an internal machine  - nor access any shares on the test internal machine. I have read a bunch of web postings that talk about setting up both a group and a policy. I don't think I need the group yet - will do so when I am finished testing for easier admin.

However, there IS a common packet filter policy called PPTP on the incoming / outgoing traffic list. I am trying to understand why I would need to configure it but more importanly why possibly, the edguard docuementation does not clearly point that out in the help doc that you must ALSO configure this policy. More importantly, when I setup this policy, it asks for the HOST IP address in the incoming tab originating From ANY. I find it hard to believe that I would have to physically add EVERY target IP address that I want access to from this PPTP connection. Isn't the POINT of doing this connect so that I can be treated AS IF I was on the internal network and all subsequent traffic/services are then allowed for me?

Anyone that can clear this up for me is GREATLY appreciated. All I am trying to do is create the simplest method of firewalling my internal environment, and letting my home users access to the network through the firewall VPN so that they can connect, and then remote desktop to whatever machine they might want to
