With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Modeling a 3-tier software using UML 2.0

Hi pals,

I  wish to build a 3-tier software and I am confused about which designing approach to use.  I intend to class diagrams, use-case diagrams and activity diagrams but I am frustrated on the methodology of coupling these diagrams to give the entire software model.

Unfortunately, I don't know where to start and after many consultations of UML 2.0 books, I seem to rush towards a dead-end. Some authors advise to get use cases from software requirements, some contradict this assertion; some books advise getting sequence diagrams from use cases, some say it the other way round.

Sadly, no material exists for modeling 3 tier-models except in a few cases where component diagrams have been applied but  I want to limit my modeling to the above-mentioned diagrams.

Can someone please give me a tip on sorting this out? That is tell me which UML class diagrams fit the purpose of modeling a 3-tier model, whereby the static, functional and dynamic behaviour of a software system can be satisfied?
