I am writing an international call progress tone generator and have successfully implemented methods for generation of up to three juxtaposed frequencies as part of the tool's function. However I am struggling to implement amplitude modulation of two frequencies. I have seen multiple mathematical notations, may of which follow one algorithm or another but since I am useless at mathematics I am unable to translate this into code.

I would be most honoured if someone with knowledge of amplitude modulation and/or someone who can interpret the algorithm into Java. For the sake of examples I wish to experiment with the USA Ringing Tone of 420Hz * 40Hz with 420Hz being the carrier signal, 40Hz as the carrier signal, 2000ms sample time, a sample rate of 16000 and 16-bit.
