The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Direct3D does not display models correctly

Hi,
At the moment when I play games on my XFX Geforce 6800 GS graphics card I get things like this happening:
http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=testchmba030003lz3.jpg
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/3746/artifactsyx6.th.jpg

I have tried my card in these set ups:
Windows XP on other machine - works fine.
Windows XP on my machine - works fine.
Windows Vista on different computer - works fine.
Windows Vista on my machine doesnt work fine.

I went over to XFX support ticket system and they suggested that I try setting the PC-BIOS to `optimal` or `setup`. Disable side-band addressing and fast-writes (which was not available), set the AGP aperture size to 128 and set AGP to 4x to help with stability. All of which didnt help.

A break through happened when I was using FXComposer 2 (http://developer.nvidia.com/object/fx_composer_home.html). In the program I was able to load in a teapot model and switch between OpenGL mode and Direc3D mode. While on the Direct3D mode I found I was getting the usual graphical glitches, as you can see from this image:
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/7752/directxoq8.png
When I switched over to the OpenGL tab the teapot had no graphic glitches what so ever:

 I checked the DxDiag and it reported no problems .

Since Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Vegas and all source games use DirectX I tried to find games that I could switch between OpenGL and Direct3D. I remembered in CS 1.6 you could switch between Direct3D and OpenGL, so when I ran it using Direct3D although no visual glitches could be seen the FPS was down to 30FPS. When I switched over to OpenGL it went up to 60 FPS.

When I told XFX via the support system they said this would be a software issue and that I should probably best to contact software vendors. I am currently clueless what I should do next so I thought I would ask you lot if you knew of anything that I could do that would fix this?

I have reinstalled windows vista and recently just updated to Windows Vista SP1 and tried these drivers
    * 10051-vista-x86-32bit-[Guru3D.com]
    * 158.18_forceware_winvista_32bit_english_whql
    * 163.75_forceware_winvista_32bit_international_beta
    * 163.75_forceware_winvista_32bit_international_whql
Currently I am using 175.16_geforce_winvista_32bit_international_whql which didnt solve the problem.
