The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

VBA, Automation error Call was rejected by callee

The ActiveX DLL created in VBA has been regsvr32 on server and called from ASP using CreateObject. This DLL creates PPT file on the fly.

Recently there was some patch/updates on the server. Since then I started getting the 'call rejected by callee' error "-2147418111".

I narrowed down all the check list of solutions from the web regarding this error
1. Norton AntiVirus plug-in for Microsoft Office Install/update would cause remote file access issue - My server has McAfee Virus
2. No generic OLE error message from OLE server; NO errors occured when I start Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel application on the server
3. oleaut32.dll is not in the task list - assuming not a OLE Automation error
4. Checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OLE. to set the value of EnableDCOM to Y. It is already set to Y on my server.

Have no clue what could it be. But the DLL file is running and it does all the ADO, creating slides in PPT, capturing data from Excel file, and Saves the PPT file in a dynamic folder on server. But the very end of the DLL code is
ExcelWorkBook.Close
PowerpointObj.Close
PowerpointObj.Quit
Set PowerpointObj = nothing

which seems to be a problem.

I commented these lines and recreated another DLL file and regsvr32 on server then called this new DLL file ASP file. This time I did not get the 'call rejected by callee' error "-2147418111".

But, I dont think its a good idea not to close the application though you open it invisibly on the server which may use memory to keep open and eventually I will get memory error after executing few times.

EXPERTS, PLEASE help me here to close my workbook and powerpoint without the automation error.

Thank You All
