The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I inherited an old Sun Sparc20 workstation that is kind of pokey and only has about 300 MB of RAM and an 8 GB hard drive, although it does work and I was able to install OpenBSD 4.3 from CD.  I have X windows installed and running and it looks like I installed MySQL server using the ports system at /usr/ports and then 'make install xxx'.  I'd like to install the Java Runtime package or the JDK and also a Tomcat server so that I can run a WebApp on the server.  Seems like it would be smarter to buy a $600.00 windows machine but we don't have the funds and this machine might do the job and it is kind of fun to see if we can get it to work anyway.

My problem is is that I've been unable to install tomcat or the JDK.  It looks like they are both in the ports tree but I get compile or other errors eventually when I try to install.  I was hoping that there was a package that did not have to be compiled or something on the CD that I could use, but I don't know where to look.

I am using the /sparc branch of the CD when I installed.

Was wondering if someone could assist or point me in the right directly to get tomcat and java installed.  I may also need php and an apache server.

If needed, I can try to install again and provide more details about how it is failing but I was hoping you could just tell me how to proceed.
