The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ASUS, Intel, Intel 82801GB/R USB 2.0 Controller on ASUS P5BV-C R motherboard

I'm a FreeBSD newbie, but jumping in with both feet. I'm trying to set up a FreeNAS box, but since I can't get the system to boot, and FreeNAS is based on FreeBSD, I think this is a FreeBSD question.

System boots fine from a LiveCD -- as long as I don't have any USB devices attached. Specifically, the boot sequence hangs on "ehci0: [GIANT-LOCKED]" if I have either a USB keyboard, a USB mouse, or a USB memory key attached. I've replaced keyboard and mouse with PS2 versions, and if I remove the USB mem stick, the system will boot without error to the FreeNAS menu.

Once I get to the FreeNAS menu, I can plug in my USB key and see that it is recognized by the OS (strange: USB key is recognized and can be used when system is up and running, but hangs the boot sequence). I can then choose the FreeNAS menu item to install the FreeNAS OS to the USB key -- everything works fine. After installation is complete, I remove the LiveCD, set my BIOS to boot from the USB key, and power cycle. The boot system again hangs at ehci0 detection. Do I need a new/different USB driver? If so, how do I do that? Any other ideas? Thanks.

FreeNAS LiveCD 0.69b3 i386 (which I think is based on FreeBSD 6.3, but I'm not certain)

ehci0: <Intel 82801GB/R (ICH7) USB 2.0 controller>
