The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? HP vs. Dell

I'm looking to buy a new desktop.  I've been an HP laptop fan since 2005 but am seeing Dell beats then in price hands down.  My specs are for a tower only that has at least:

- 3GB ram
- dual video output
- 500GB 7200rpm HD
- wireless network card
- dvd drive

The HP is nearly twice the Dell.  Although the HP has 64bit Vista and 4GB RAM, I don't really see an edge there.  The Both has 1 year parts/labor (HP isn't on site.  Not sure about Dell).   Any ideas why Dell seems to be generally cheaper?
