Hello there i have a problem with what i believe to be windows installer on windows vista. Essentially what happens is on some application installations it throws up the error:
"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." regardless to whether or not UAC is enabled or not. I believe vista ships with windows installer 4.0 and i have also updated it to 4.5 but it made no difference, i have tried compatiblity modes, uninstalling antivirus and firewalls etc. and have made no progress.
I have read every entry i could find here and through many many other searches concerning this problem and i have tried each and every single response to try and solve it, annoyingly i have had no luck at all.
Office did not cause a problem when i installed it.
Applications which caused this error:
winzip
adobe reader (8.12) although the older version installed fine
some nokia applications (not all)
logitech setpoint installs but does not write to the registry not sure if this is related
nhancer

I would really appreciate not to have to do a format or repair installation to fix this, im open to any ideas and retrying previous ones any help or ideas are welcomed thanks.Start Free Trial
