Mapped drive icon opens My Documents folder

Hi,

I recently discovered a problem when I add newly created users accounts to a new client pc or a re imaged pc. Whenever I map a net share from our Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise R2 Standard Edition file server, the mapping goes successfully. I can see the mapped drive icon  in the My Computer window, and I am able to create a shortcut to the user's windows desktop. However, when either the icon for the mapped drive in My computer or the shortcut crated on the desktop is clicked, the My Documents folder opens.

When the My Documents folder opens(locally, we do not use folder redirection in our environment), it opens with a tree view on the left of the window tht looks like the Explorer function when navigating the client computer's folder  hierarchy.

Interestingly enough, the mapped drive shoes up in this Explorer view and I am able to access the contents of the net share.

Another thing to note is that when I right click the mapped drive icone in wither MyComputer or the shortcut created to the desktop, the context menu is missing the Explore function and is replaced with odd characters : (OX????)

I tried other clients pc's, as i assumed that it was something with mappings to this particular clint pc, howver the problem migrates to other computers that are on the domain.

I scoured the net and found a fix regarding the MountPoints2 entries in the registry, but it is ony a fix to the client pc and seems that the problem originates from the server itself.,

Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to any assistance.Start Free Trial
