I'm trying to restore a Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller from a Ghost disk image. The original hardware failed and I'm bringing this system back up as a virtual server (VMWare ESXi).
The image is very recent, less than a week old, so I'm not worried about AD corruption yet.
The server blue-screens when starting after restoring the disk image. The behavior is consistent with what I would expect from a storage controller driver mis-match.
Could someone help me with the Microsoft-approved method of replacing the storage driver?
For Windows Server 2003, performing an in-place upgrade worked well, after specifying drivers and re-applying service packs and updates.
When attempting to re-install 2008, I receive an "Upgrade has been disabled" statement. I'm using the same installation media and license key as the original server. I've also tried the downloadable trial ISO - same problem.
I've tried using the VMWare Conversion utility but that errors out at 12% each time -- and I'm looking for the MS-approved resolution to this issue.
