The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Hi,

I am having an issue with some Citrix servers after upgrading Internet Explorer 7 as the proxy settings have dropped from the IE settings page hence users cannot browse the internet.

Our GPO "Internet_Explorer_Settings" are configured with the following options:

User Configuration (Enabled) -> Windows Settings -> Internet Explorer Maintenance -> Connection/Proxy Settings
Enable proxy settings: HTTP = proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
Execptions: Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with *abc.xxx.xxx, *def.xxx.xxx, 192.x.x.x
Do not use proxy server for local (intranet) addresses: Enabled

The policy is definately being applied as per the output from gpresult /v:

    Applied Group Policy Objects
    -----------------------------
        Internet_Explorer_Settings
        Default Domain Policy
        Terminal Server
        Internet_Explorer_Settings
        Default Domain Policy
        Internet_Explorer_Settings

Something I've noticed as strange as under the section Internet Explorer Connection:

        Internet Explorer Connection
        ----------------------------
            HTTP Proxy Server:   N/A
            Secure Proxy Server: N/A
            FTP Proxy Server:    N/A
            Gopher Proxy Server: N/A
            Socks Proxy Server:  N/A
            Auto Config Enable:  No
            Enable Proxy:        No
            Use same Proxy:      Yes

            HTTP Proxy Server:   proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Secure Proxy Server: proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            FTP Proxy Server:    proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Gopher Proxy Server: N/A
            Socks Proxy Server:  proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Auto Config Enable:  No
            Enable Proxy:        Yes
            Use same Proxy:      No

            HTTP Proxy Server:   proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Secure Proxy Server: proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            FTP Proxy Server:    proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Gopher Proxy Server: N/A
            Socks Proxy Server:  proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Auto Config Enable:  No
            Enable Proxy:        Yes
            Use same Proxy:      No

            HTTP Proxy Server:   proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Secure Proxy Server: proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            FTP Proxy Server:    proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Gopher Proxy Server: N/A
            Socks Proxy Server:  proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Auto Config Enable:  No
            Enable Proxy:        Yes
            Use same Proxy:      No

            HTTP Proxy Server:   proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Secure Proxy Server: proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            FTP Proxy Server:    proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Gopher Proxy Server: proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Socks Proxy Server:  proxy.xxx.xxx:8080
            Auto Config Enable:  No
            Enable Proxy:        Yes
            Use same Proxy:      Yes

            HTTP Proxy Server:   N/A
            Secure Proxy Server: N/A
            FTP Proxy Server:    N/A
            Gopher Proxy Server: N/A
            Socks Proxy Server:  N/A
            Auto Config Enable:  No
            Enable Proxy:        No
            Use same Proxy:      Yes

If those are set chronogically I guess that would explain why the settings are set to blank as the last lot are "N/A", what I can't figure out is why it is happening as only the policies that have the Proxy options configured are "Internet_Explorer_Settings" and "Terminal Server" which both have the proxy set correctly to proxy.xxx.xxx:8080

RSOP reports that the proxy should be set to proxy.xxx.xxx:8080 but going to the connection options in IE yields blanks.

Any ideas? This has only happened since installation of IE7

Cheers
