The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Accessing Shared Printer from Linux computer

Asked by WalterOB in Linux Printing, Linux Setup, Printers by HP

Tags: , ,

In trying learn more about Linux I created a desktop computer with only Linux installed and connected it with Cat5 cable to my Westell327W modem.  I also have a Win XP Pro desktop computer and a Win XP Home desktop connected to the modem by cable.  (The modem connects to my DSL service.)  Each of the Win XP machines has a printer connected by parallel port.  I am trying to connect to a shared HP 2400 series inkjet connected to the Win XP Pro machine, but the Linux computer never finds it.  Network Magic on the XP Pro computer shows the printer connected to it, and also shows the XP Home machine and the Linux machine.  Even typing the full path in the Linux machine gives me a "not found" message.  There is no Network Magic for Linux so I am at a loss how to proceed.  I downloaded and installed the HP driver for Linux OS, and everything proceeded without error until (after the restart) I entered su -c "hp-setup" and and elected the network/ethernet option.  Then I got the message no printer was found.   What should I do to resolve this problem?  (I should also note that I was never able to establish my home network using the Windows Network Wizard and had to resort to Network Magic for get any machine to see another.)  Start Free Trial
