The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Red Hat ES4 - NIC bonding not working properly

I have Red Hat Linux ES 4.2 installed on a HP Proliant DL360, with 2 built-in 10/100/1000 NICs.

After reviewing a number of articles from the Net I have configured active/failure bonding, but it isn't working as expected. With both NICs up and running everything works ok, but when I disconnect the primary NIC the secondary NIC doesn't kick in. I lose all network connectivity until I re-connect my primary NIC.

I have tried this on a 2 switch setup with an ISL, as well as on a single switch only. The relevant files are as follows:
