The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Boot Linux from USB thumb drive

Asked by artemisit in Linux Distributions, Operating Systems Miscellaneous, Removable Backup Media

Hello!

I am trying to set up a machine that will run a flavor if Linux from a thumb drive.  The nature of her job makes her have to investigate websites that could potentially infect her PC with virii/spyware/you name it.  What my intention is will be to create a situation where when she investigates these sites and possibly gets infected when she reboots to the thumb drive it isn't in a "persistent" state so to speak so the changes that were made are gone and she is back to where she was the previous day.

I have tried several different versions from pendrivelinux.com; however, only one of the versions was I able to actually get to boot, that was the USB Pendrivelinux install from Windows.  The others would act as if they were going to start to boot, but just failed.  The one I actually got to boot didnt have drivers for my LAN card so I attempted to install them but was met with much tribulation.

Is there anyone who can recommend a Linux install, or any other boot from USB install of any OS that I can try that will work with out many issues as I am not as Linux savvy as I should be.

Remember, the whole point is for it to be bootable and be able to brose the internet, but not save changes.

Thanks to anyone who can help!
