The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Recommendations for IP Phones in an Asterisk Environment

I am in the process of installing an Asterisk system and have the SIP trunking service all lined up.  The question now is, what to use for phones.

We are starting off with 6 phones and three trunks and I have a POE switch in place.

So, I have looked at a bunch of the available phones including products from Aastra, Linksys/Sipura, Cisco, Polycom, and Grandstream.  I eliminated Cisco both on value grounds as well as the nagging feeling I would have trouble getting them to work without investing in a Cisco switch.  The Polycom stuff is nice but starts to get pricey as you get a 4 line-appearance phone though, I am guessing, the speaker phone will work well.  When I compared Aastra an Sipura with Grandstream, it looked like the Grandstream GXP-2000 (and a GXP-2020 for my desk) has the best combination of features at the best price.  The GXP-2000s are $80 per copy, work with both POE standards, have 4 line appearances, a decent display, upgradeable firmware, and all the other bells and whistles.

Sounds almost too good to be true.  Am I missing something?

What other phones have folks had good luck with and or would recommend?
