The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

We need some sort of real-time monitoring of our Internet bandwidth on our network.  Specifically there are times when our Internet access speeds drop significantly for periods of time, and we need to be able to know why.  At the moment we are using a SonicWall Pro 2040s for our network firewall and have the add-on ViewPoint software.  This add-on gives us the ability to review Internet usage and produce various reports, but the reports are generated after 24 hours, so investigating an Internet slow down is always a day after the event.  We need some sort of way to know what is causing Internet bandwidth issues when it is occurring, and be able to track it to specific computers, users and web sites.

The solution should be free or relatively inexpensive. It should be relatively simple to setup or at least have decent instructions on setups.  It can be for Windows or Linux.  If we need more than one program, that's fine.   We'd like it to have a real-time graphical representation of the overall bandwidth being used.

I've tried Intermapper as a suggestion from a similar post and it doesn't do what I need, I can't make Wireshark (Ethereal) give me much traffic outside of the PC it's installed on, and I can't find a proper tutorial on any of the popular Linux apps like NTop. Can anyone suggest some options for us?
