Hello,
After experiencing many problems with my old 32-bit Vista Installation (freezing issues), I decided to upgrade my system. I had previously ran Ubuntu on the same system and everything ran fine, so I figured there was just something wrong with the installation. Anyway, I wanted to move to a 64-bit Vista installation to utilize my Athlon 64 X2 6000+, and also beef up the system properly, so I decided to order some components. Here is what my system has inside now:
Mobo: Asus M2N-Plus SLI Vista Edition
Processor: Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Memory: 5 gigs Corsair XMS 2 (replaced 2x512 gig modules with 2x2gig)
HD: WD Velociraptor 300gig (replaced old 7200 rpm drive)
Graphics: EVGA Geforce 8800 (replaced EVGA 7900GS)
Audio: HT Omega Striker (replaced audigy 2)
Power Supply: Corsair HX520
After getting everything into the new case, I fired it up and got some beep errors. (1 long, 3 short) After googling a bit, I found it was a graphics card error. I then put the 7900 back in and the system posted but came up with a high voltage warning and told me to check the system bios. I found that the 12v was spiking between 13v and 15.5! The CPU Temp started at 70 degrees C and started inclining to almost 90! I shut down the system, checked everything inside and didn't see anything noticeable, so I reseated everything and checked my power connections and it is still displaying the same behavior. I am afraid I am going to seriously damage new hardware, so I don't want to fire the system up again. I am crossing my fingers that the only thing that will need replacing is the motherboard (and perhaps, *sigh*, the brand new 8800).
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
