The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ODBC--call failed. [DataDirect][ODBC Sybase Wire Protocol driver]Timeout exceeded.(#0)

Asked by Raj_B_700 in Sybase Database, Microsoft Access Database

ODBC--call failed. [DataDirect][ODBC Sybase Wire Protocol driver]Timeout exceeded.(#0)

In MS Access 2003 :  I'm trying to "import" a Table that via DataDirect 5.1 ODBC Driver that is in our Sybase Database.  I keep getting the above error message.

I've already gone into ODBC Data Source Administrator to Connection Pooling and specified:
DataDirect 5.1 Sybase Wire Protocol to "Retry Wait Time = 0 " and made the 'Set Connection Pooling Attributes' checked to "Don't pool connections to this driver".

In User DSN, for the Sybase Database,  I've configured:
Network Library:  Winsock
Defalut Buffer Size for Long Columns (in Kb): 10240
Distributed Transaction Model: 0 -XA Protocol
Report Codepage Conversion Errors:  0 - Ignore Errors
Checks for:  Application Using Threads and Tightly Couple Distributed Transactions
Performance Tab:
Select Method:  1 - Direct
Prepare Method:  1 - Partial
Fetch Array Size:  50000
Packet Size:  512
Connection Cache Size: 1000
Failover Tab:
Connection Rety Count: 0
Connection Retry Delay: 1

Please let me know where to "increase" the call-time so that there is "no" timeout exceeded error.

Within MS Access - I did not see a place where I could specify or open-without-limitations a 'Timeout' for "importing" a Table.   I know that within the Query Properties (within design view) there is a place where you can 'zero' out or increase the timeout for the query execution/call.  But,  I didn't see any place for the same when you are 'importing' a table.

Thanking you for your time & help,  sincerely, R.
