I want to move from crm 3.0 on an old machine to crm4.0 on a new machine. On the old machine server 2003 SBS premium 32-bit is installed on the new one (that I want to be a dedicated server for sql and crm) I want to install server 2008 Standard edition 64-bit. On the old one SQL 2005 (I'm not sure anymore what edition) is installed, on the new one I want to run SQL server 2008 CTP5.
The old machine is a Pentium 3 2x 0,9Ghz machine and therefore an upgrade to crm 4.0 is not possible on the old machine. Doing a new install of server 2003 with sql 2005 and crm 3.0 I find far to much work.
So my question is what are the chances of making a move directly from the old database, attaching it to sql 2008 on the new server rightaway. I would accept loss of things likt workflows (not defined anyway) and report views / reportserver reports. Even customisations to input screens I would be willing to redefine however tehere are customizations to the database that involve data that I require, so they would have to go along with the the database transfer. Can that be achieved by an export / import of customizations straight from crm3 to crm4 ? If not, is there another way?
