- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community

Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. I've got an Oracle server with 4 SIDs running. My problem is that new tablespaces are created in /oracle/dbs when they should go in their respective /oracle/oradata/<sidname> folder. the create db file dest parameter is set to the correct direcotry and is written to the spfile. when i restart oracle and view the v$parameter, its fine.
i'm creating tablespaces as
create tablespace SOMETABLESPACE datafile 'SOMEDATAFILE.DBF' ....;
should this not work by default? i dont want the users of my application to be aware of the underlying directory structures but on the same token, i want them to be able to use the application to spin out new tablespaces/users as necessary. the problem ive ran into is same-named datafiles in the same directory with a big oracle collision and an unopenable database.
