The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

File Size Limit Help...

Asked by jlinde in Informix Database, IBM AIX Unix

Ok, I am in need of some serious help. Let me give you some background with hopes that this will shed some light onto a solution.

We are running our ERP package NextGen on an AIX 5.2 (5200-10) machine w/informix contolling the database for NextGen. Up till yesterday all was fine w/normal usage than we hit the wall. We tried to enter in some information into our system and generated an sql error. After some research we found that the .dat file the system was trying to write to had grown to 2147483136 in size.

I sniffed around the web and found that there are limits to file size within Aix and Informix. I quickly went to my /etc/security/limits file and set the data and rss to -1. They were both set at these values: data-262144 w/rss - 65536. Once I did this and logged out and back in I was than able to enter information into our system. This was a great thing except I am unable to bring down that file in size? I must admit that we had keep many records from years past on our system. We ran through many purge apps within our system, but the .dat will not shrink in size. If we go into the .dat we see that information is cleaning out of it, but again the size stays at: 2147483136.

The questions being these:

Did I fix anything or simple put a band-aid onto the situation?

How do I get that .dat file back down in size? Did the .dat corrupt w/exceeding the 2gb limit?

Any help would be much appreciated -
