The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Apple, Final Cut Pro, Studio 2, On a Mac Pro Dual Quad Core 3GHz

I have a Dual Quad Core 3.0GHz Mac Pro used for video editing. I need a way to monitor 5.1 audio mixes directly from the timeline WITHOUT having to export as DTS/AC3.

Mac Pro does NOT have PCI slots, so PCI cards such as the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 are out of the question. I have been unable to find a PCI-Express 5.1 Soundcard that is compatible with Mac OSX (10.5.4).

I need at least 6 discreet channel inputs (via USB, Firewire or an onboard PCI-express card) that will convert to either Optical (TOSlink) or Digital (Coaxial) which I can then take directly into my Pioneer VSX-815 5.1 Receiver.

The onboard Optical out on the Mac Pro will not accomplish this. It will only output ENCODED 5.1 - otherwise it is a 2-channel stereo output.

I use an Aja IO for my video/audio IO. However, the optical out for monitoring supports ADAT (which my receiver doesn't understand) or S/PDIF which is only 2 channels (unless DTS encoded, which doesn't do me any good).

Please help me find either a 5.1 PCI-Express Sound Card that is compatible with Mac OSX or an external USB/FW solution that is budget-conscious.

Thanks in advance.
